Villages are unique, generated structures in Minecraft populated by villagers. There are farms to gain food from and chests with loot. Not to mention that there are also tons of houses to stay in and villagers to trade with. Whether you plan to stay, visit, or pillage, here is how you can find a Minecraft village!

  1. 1

Open Minecraft. Select the dirt block-shaped Minecraft icon, then click PLAY at the bottom of the Minecraft launcher.

  2. 2

Click Singleplayer . It's in the middle of the Minecraft window. Doing so brings up a list of your singleplayer worlds.

  3. 3

Select a world that has cheats enabled. Double-click the world in question to load it. In order to find a village in Minecraft, your selected world must have cheats enabled for it.

    • If you don't have a world with cheats enabled, click Create New World, enter a world name, click More World Options..., click Allow Cheats: OFF, and click Create New World.
  4. 4

Open the console. Press the / key to do so. The console text box will open at the bottom of the window.

  5. 5

Enter the "locate" command. Type in locate Village and then press the Enter key.

    • The capital "V" in "Village" is extremely important, as using a lower-case "v" will result in a broken command.
    • In some recent version of Minecraft you may need use small "v" instead of capital "V".
  6. 6

Review the results. You should see a white-text message that reads "Located Village at [x-coordinate] (y?) [z-coordinate]" near the bottom of the Minecraft window.

    • For example, you might see "Located Village at 123 (y) 456" here.
    • The y-coordinate (altitude) is usually unknown, meaning that you'll need to use trial-and-error to guess it.
  7. 7

Type in the "teleport" command. Re-open the console, then type in teleport [player] [x-coordinate] [y-coordinate] [z-coordinate], replacing the bracketed information with your username and the coordinates of the village. You will need to guess the y coordinate.

    • For a player named "Waffles" in the above example, you'd enter teleport Waffles 123 [guess] 456. Names are case-sensitive.
    • Try using a number between 70 and 80 for the y-coordinate.
    • If you are running Minecraft 1.12 or higher, you can use the selector @s instead of your username.
  8. 8

Press Enter . This will run your teleport command. As long as the y-coordinate isn't so high that the fall kills you or such that it places you inside of a wall, you will land in, above, or below the village.

    • If you're underground, dig up to get to the village.
    • If you spawn inside of a wall in Survival mode, you'll quickly suffocate; to prevent this, you can attempt to mine your way out.

  13. 13

Type in the "teleport" command. Re-open the "Chat" box, then type in /tp [username] [x-coordinate] [y-coordinate] [z-coordinate], replacing the bracketed information with your username and the coordinates of the village. You will need to guess the y coordinate.

    • For a player named "hippo" in the above example, you'd enter /tp hippo -65 [guess] 342. Names are case-sensitive.
    • You will usually need to guess the y-coordinate, which determines the village's altitude.
  14. 14

Tap . It's on the far-right side of the text box. This will teleport you to your entered coordinates; as long as the y-coordinate isn't so high that the fall kills you or such that it places you inside of a wall, you will land in, above, or below the village.

    • If you're underground, dig up to get to the village.
    • If you spawn inside of a wall in Survival mode, you'll quickly suffocate; to prevent this, you can attempt to mine your way out.

  1. 1

Understand how this method works. Since you can't use commands to find a village and then teleport to it on console editions of Minecraft, you'll need to find the seed code for a world and then enter it into a village finder online to find the location of a village. After doing so, you'll be able to travel to the village's location manually by using a map.

  2. 2

Open Minecraft. Select the Minecraft icon to do so. If you bought Minecraft in disc format, you'll need to insert the disc before doing so.

  3. 3

Select Play Game . It's at the top of the main Minecraft menu.

  4. 4

Select a world. Press A or X with the world selected to open its page.

  5. 5

Note the world's seed. Near the top of the menu, you'll see a "Seed:" section followed by a long string of numbers. You'll need to enter that string of numbers into a website on your computer to find villages in your world.

  6. 6

  7. 7

Enter your world's seed number. In the "Seed" text field near the middle of the page, type in the number listed at the top of the world menu in Minecraft.

  8. 8

Click Find Villages! . It's a blue button on the right side of the page. This will show yellow dots around the map grid; these dots represent villages.

  9. 9

Scroll down and select your console. Click the PC (1.10 and up) box in the lower-right side of the page, then click XOne/PS4 or X360/PS3 in the pop-up menu. This will revise the map to show console-specific villages.

  10. 10

Zoom out if necessary. If you don't see any yellow dots on the map grid, click and drag the slider at the bottom of the window to the left.

  11. 11

Find a village's location. Select one of the yellow dots on the map, then look at the coordinates that appear below the bottom-left corner of the map. Note these coordinates so that you know where to look when going to the village later.

  12. 12

Make a map and equip it. In the console version of Minecraft, having a map allows you to see your current coordinates.

  13. 13

Navigate to the village. With the map equipped, walk toward the village. Once the x- and z-coordinates intersect, you should be standing near the village.

    • The ChunkBase Village Finder is not 100 percent accurate, so you may find yourself near (but not in) a village. Search around the area for the village if you can't find it immediately.
    • Ignore the y-coordinate for now, since you'll know whether you need to travel up or down once you reach the village's x- and z-coordinate intersection.

  1. 1

Understand that finding a village may take hours. Even in small worlds, finding one village amidst tens of thousands of blocks is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack.

  2. 2

Know where to look. Villages spawn in Desert, Savanna, Taiga (including cold variants of Taiga), and Plains (including icy plains) biomes. If you find yourself in a Jungle, Mushroom, Tundra, or other biome not supported for villages, don't waste your time looking.

  3. 3

Know what to look for. Villages are often made of wood planks and cobblestone, and tend to stand out from their surrounding areas.

  4. 4

Prepare for a long journey. It can take hours to find a village, so stock up on basic tools, a bed, food, and weapons before you set out. It's best to travel during the day and camp during the nights, so consider digging yourself a hold and sealing it most of the way to keep out mobs.

    • You'll need to leave at least one block open to avoid suffocating.
  5. 5

Tame a mount for transportation. If you happen to have a saddle, you can use it to get a mount and speed up your exploration. Find a horse and interact with it several times with an empty hand until it doesn't throw you off, then sneak up to the tamed horse and select it with the saddle to make it controllable while you ride it.[1]

  6. 6

Find a viewpoint. Navigate to the tallest hill that you can find in a biome in which villages spawn. This will allow you to take in the surrounding areas, making it easier to spot man-made structures.

  7. 7

Look for torches at night. You'll be able to see fire much more clearly at night than during the day. While fire at night may be lava, there's a good chance that the fire is coming from torches—and torches typically mean villages.

    • Be extremely careful while doing this if you're playing survival mode on anything other than "peaceful" difficulty. It's best not to investigate the torches until the following day due to mobs.
  8. 8

Keep exploring. Villages are random, and there is no sure-fire way to find one in the game without using third-party tools. For the best chance at finding a village, take the time to explore each compatible biome you come across.
